after the teen retreat i went strait home. i had already packed most of my stuff before the retreat so i just had to throw some stuff from my overnight bag into my suitcase. every time we go down to Yap we take the Zimmers a ton of food that they cant buy on the island, so i had a bunch of random food items stuffed in my suitcase and carry-on bag. i felt weird going through security cause i had bags of cheese and stuff in there... we also took two coolers of frozen meat and other refrigerated foods.
we arrived in Yap late that night so we didnt do much that day. Sunday morning was our first church service. for their song service they had 2 guitars, a few ukes, and a violin! it actually sounded pretty good, and the people there sing really loud and from the heart. the church there is smaller than our youth group and they still sing louder than us! that afternoon we just chilled at Zimmers house until the Bible study that night. the Bible study took place in a village with no power or running water called Mop. one of the Bible study members owns a house there and hosts the Bible study every Sunday night even though he was unsaved, but that night we were there he came to know the Lord as his Savior! it was so cool! later in the week we went to see the christian radio station they have there. it was really cool to see how they ran their radio station there in Yap. we walked around and wrote down a few measurements for future work on the tower. when we were all done i found the four wheeler out the back and drove around till we had to leave. later that night we drove down to a beach on the other side of the island and had a BBQ. we had chicken, hotdogs, and i bunch of other local food. everything was SUPER good! we waited for the sun to go down till we packed up and headed home. the next day we had some tough work ahead of us. it was really really hot that day. before we came, Mr. Zimmer had cut down some trees toward the top of his property. now these werent little trees, they were huge! he had cut them into three sections so it would be easier to pull down. our job was chain each section of log to a rope and pully system and drag them down using a four wheel drive van from Japan (yeah, i had to throw that in there. most of the vehicles there are from Japan). for our last main event we went on a boat trip. our first destination was through a channel in between two of the main islands. it was so beautiful! at our final stop we jumped out and swam for a bit. the current was pretty strong and we drifted away from the boat pretty fast so the swim back was really tiring. right before i got back in the boat i cut my foot on some coral =( thursday was our last day there, which is why there was no app of the week last week, but early friday morning we flew back to Guam. it was a great trip! BTW: since i posted this today the app of the week will be posted tomorrow. lemme know if you have any suggestions for it.
